Nepal Declares May 3rd Eid-al-Fitr Public Holiday

A spokesperson of the Government of Nepal has announced that the Cabinet had decided to declare a public holiday on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, on the occasion of the Eid-al-Fitr (End of Ramadan).

Muslim public holidays were added to the official list of Nepalese public holidays for 2008 (2008-10-01), after years of protests by the Muslim minority in Nepal (2007-06-30), and they have been maintained maintained since then (2021-07-19, 2019-05-30, 2018-06-14, 2017-11-30, 2017-08-31, 2016-09-10, 2016-07-06, 2015-09-24, 2015-07-17, 2014-07-28, 2013-08-08, 2012-08-17, 2010-09-09 and 2009-09-20), though they were often limited to the Muslim population.

The list of gazetted public holidays in Nepal for the Nepalese year 2079 (April 2022-April 2023), was published last spring (2022-03-10).
