Nepal Declares May 9 Electoral Public Holiday

The spokesperson for the ministry of home affairs of the Government of Nepal, Phanindra Mani Pokharel, has announced that a meeting of the council of ministers had decided that there would be a public holiday for government offices and public agencies across the country on Friday, May 13, 2022, on account of the local level elections being held on that date.

The aforementioned declaration of Friday, May 13, 2022, as a one-off electoral public holidays thus amends the list of gazetted public holidays in Nepal for the Nepalese Sambat year 2079 (April 2022-April 2023), which was published this past spring (2022-03-10).

The date of local and national elections has on occasion been declared as a non-working public holiday in Nepal (2017-09-11, 2016-05-31, 2014-06-18, 2013-11-11, 2013-11-04, 2011-10-22, 2009-04-09, 2008-07-23, 2008-04-02, 2008-04-01, 2008-04-06, 2007-10-07, 2007-07-24, 2007-04-10).
