The Labor, Health and Social Development Commission of Panama's National Assembly has approved, in its first reading, the House Bill 759 which transfers the Carnival Tuesday public holiday of 2022, to the preceding Monday.
Recall that, earlier this month (2022-02-04), prompted by the cancellation of the 2022 Carnival in Panama, the Labor, Health and Social Development Commission of the Panamanian National Assembly had endorsed Bill 210, which would transfer the Carnival Tuesday public holiday to the previous Monday, February 28, but only in 2022.
As per the bill's initiator, deputy Daniel Ramos: "In order to achieve optimal use of mandatory rest days, contribute to the productivity of companies and, above all, contribute to the economic reactivation of the tourism sector, in all districts nationwide we must take actions to facilitate the mobilization of people. to the interior of the country, which we can achieve by transferring the mandatory rest day corresponding to Carnival Tuesday 2022 to the immediately preceding Monday".
The 2021 Carnival was also canceled (2021-01-30) and at that time the Panamanian Ministry of Health announced that the only public holiday would be Tuesday, February 16, 2021, with Carnival Monday and Ash Wednesday being normal working days in 2021 ("el lunes 15 será un día normal de trabajo y y el miércoles 17 de Cenizas será un día con jornada laboral regular").
