The President of the Republic of Paraguay, Mario Abdo Benítez, has signed the Decree No. 6618 which moves 2 of Paraguay's annual public holidays in 2022; Heroes' Day (from March 1st to February 28) and the public holiday commemorating the Battle of Boquerón (From September 29 to October 3rd).

As per a separate announcement by the head of the Civil Cabinet, Hernán Huttemann, the details of the aforementioned Decree 6618, established in the context of law 1723/01, were approved by the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce and the National Secretariat of Tourism.

Despite its passage, over 20 years ago (2001-06-29), and regular calls for the executive to avail itself of its prerogative (2010-09-23 and 2008-07-26), the provisions of law 1723/01 had rarely been used before 2012 (2012-07-24).

But, since 2012 the practice had become an annual one (2018-12-22, 2017-11-21, 2016-11-22, 2015-12-10, 2014-12-18, 2014-12-07, 2014-01-10 and 2013-01-03), until the current pandemic made the moving of public holidays more complex.

The changes to the 2020 public holidays of Paraguay, contained in the pre-pandemic Decreto número 2757 (2019-10-28), were later partially abrogated by the Decreto número 4040 (2020-09-10).

Then, in 2021, after a lot of hesitation (2021-01-07), the Government of Paraguay moved the 2021 Paz del Chaco and Victoria de Boquerón public holiday from its set date of September 29, 2021, to Monday, September 27, 2021 (2021-09-10).
