The South African Government Communication and Information System has announced the dates of the annual non-working public holidays in South Africa for the calendar year 2024.

The public holidays in South Africa for the calendar year 2024 follows the annual trend of past years (2021-06-14, 2020-12-03, 2020-10-16, 2018-12-15, 2018-01-14, 2017-01-15, 2016-01-12, 2015-01-05, 2014-02-13, 2013-02-06, 2012-01-27, 2010-03-26, 2008-11-12, 2008-02-24, and 2006-03-22) and is based on the Public Holidays Act, Act No 36 of 1994 without any reference to any possible change due to the ongoing review of public holidays in South Africa (2012-07-09, 2012-06-11 and 2003-11-06) or to election dates (2021-10-12, 2016-06-24, 2016-06-18, 2009-03-19, 2004-02-24 and 1999-04-28) or sundry reasons (2020-11-11, 2016-09-19 and 2016-09-15).

The aforementioned list of public holidays in South Africa for the calendar year 2024 contains the usual mention that "The Public Holidays Act (Act No 36 of 1994) determines whenever any public holiday falls on a Sunday, the Monday following on it shall be a public holiday", and it lists 1 day in lieu public holiday to compensate the Youth Day public holiday falling on a Sunday in 2024.

As for Easter, the announcement states that "The dates on which Good Friday and Easter Sunday fall are determined according to the ecclesiastical moon. That varies each year but they fall at some point between late March and late April.".
