The Secretary to the Sri Lankan Ministry of Public Administration, J.J. Ratnasiri, has announced that Monday, May 2, 2022, would be declared a public holiday "in view of the Labour Day falling on Sunday".

The declaration of Monday, May 2, 2022, as a public holiday, thus further amends (2022-04-08) the official list of Sri Lankan public holidays for the calendar year 2022 as announced last summer (2021-07-06), in a manner similar to what was done in 2018, when the Sri Lankan Government declared Monday, May 7, 2018, as a non-working public holiday in Sri Lanka "taking into the consideration of the Vesak week, which coincides with the International Workers’ Day" (2018-05-03, 2018-04-11 and 2018-03-27).

However, in 2016, when May 1st was last a Sunday, the Sri Lankan Government had decided not to declare Monday, May 2, 2016, as a day in lieu non-working public holiday in Sri Lanka (2016-04-29).
