The UK Chancellor, Rishi Sunak, is reported to be in favor of creating a new annual bank holiday in honour of the Queen, an idea also supported by the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), Hospitality UK, the Archbishop of Canterbury, and Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Recall that, at the end of 2020 (2020-11-12), the UK's culture secretary, Oliver Dowden, had announced that an extra Platinum Jubilee public holiday would be declared on Friday, June 3, 2022, to mark Queen Elizabeth's 70th anniversary on the throne, which, combined with a shift of the 2022 spring bank holiday to Thursday, June 2, 2022, will create a 4-day period of bank holidays.

A decade ago, for the Queen's 2012 Diamond Jubilee, a public holiday was declared on Tuesday, June 5, 2012, and the annual Spring Bank Holiday was be moved to Monday, June 4, 2012 (2009-12-27 and 2008-06-26).

And 10 years before that, for the Queen's 2002 Golden Jubilee, a public holiday was declared on Monday, June 3, 2002, while the 2002 Spring Bank Holiday was moved to the following day, Tuesday, June 4, 2002 (2001-06-19 and 2000-11-24).

As was the case in 2002 and 2012, the 2020 announcement by Secretary Dowden was followed by a many Commonwealth states and Crown Posessions also declaring a public holiday for the 2022 Platinum Jubilee (2022-03-12, 2022-03-08, 2022-01-17, 2021-12-28, 2021-12-22, 2021-11-30, 2021-11-05, 2021-10-29, 2021-10-21, 2021-08-28, 2021-08-06 and 2021-07-05).
