West Bengal Declares Municipal Election Public Holiday February 27

The government of India's State of West Bengal has issued the vide notification No:Labr/129/(LC-IR)/IR/7S-06/17 declaring a paid public holiday on Sunday, February 27, 2022, on account of the municipal elections being held on that date, for "all shops, commercial and industrial establishments, in all areas pertaining to the municipalities to which election has been notified".

As per the aforementioned West Bengal government notice, signed by the Principal Secretary to the Government of West Bengal, "In connection with the Municipal General Elections to 108 Municipalities scheduled to be held on 27th February, 2022 (Sunday) vide W.B. State Election Commission Notification No. 536-SEC/1E-99/2021(Pt.-1) dated 03.02.2022 in compliance with the Notification No. 133/MA/0/C-4/1E-1/2008(Pt-1) dated 03.02.2022, issued by the State Govt., the undersigned is directed to declare that, it has been made obligatory on the part of the employers of any business, trade, industrial undertaking or any other establishments in all areas pertaining to 108 Municipalities, to which elections have been notified, to grant paid holiday on the day of Poll to their workmen who are voters in the said constituency areas, so as to enable them to exercise their right of franchise.".

The declaration of a paid public holiday on Sunday, February 27, 2022, on account of the municipal elections, thus further amends (2022-02-07) the previously-released list of West Bengal non-working public holidays for the calendar year 2022, as contained in the Department Notification No. 3640 -F(P2) which was released late last year (2021-11-26).
