Background Information

Governing Law: Official public holidays in Zambia are regulated by the Employment Act (Chapter 268 of the laws of Zambia) and by the March 26th, 1964 Public Holidays Act (Vol 15 ch 272 of the laws of Zambia), which was repealed by Act No. 14 of 1975, and later amended by Act No. 23 of 1987.  Easter Monday: although it is not an official public holiday, as per the current legislation, it would seem that Easter Monday is observed annually as a de facto public holiday.  Many organizations close shortly before Christmas for industry break and reopen after first week in January.
