How GridTemplates are used (scanning)
When Q++Studio scans a GridTemplate, it looks for, and saves into its database, the following information :
•Number of pages.
•List of all the colors contained (see also Color Macros.).
•List of all the textboxes, the order in which they appear, the page on which they appear, and the tokens they contain.
•Create one preview snapshot bitmap of each page of the GridTemplate to be used in the Templates Manager.
Setting the page size and the number of pages of a GridTemplate comes out of necessity, and does not need further recommendations. However, the colors contained in a GridTemplate and the order in which you create the textboxes can become very important.
Due to limitations in QuarkXPress, new colors cannot be created reliably, programmatically, in QuarkXPress. Therefore, if you think you will need to use a color in a given GridTemplate (to highlight holidays, for example), make sure you have created at least one object which uses this color (even if you set its shade to 0%). Creating a color which is not used by any object in the GridTemplate will cause QuarkXPress to ignore it when the GridTemplate is scanned. Properties which let you modify text or textbox colors are : GridOptions, Macros, MiniCalendars, and Saras.
The creation order of textboxes can also be very important. If you think you will use cyclical Slogans with a given GridTemplate, make sure that you create textboxes in the order in which you want the slogans cycle to progress, and/or in the order in which you want the token DayValues to increment.
