Background Information

Weekend Public Holidays: Public holidays that occur on a weekend are moved to the following Monday.  May Day Bank Holiday is sometimes referred to as Early May Bank Holiday.  St Andrew's Day was made an official but optional public hoiliday in late 2006. By "optional" one means that workers may choose to take this day off instead of one of the other official public holidays, but not in addition to. In practice, as of 2009, few people take this holiday and businesses run essentially unaffected on November 30th in Scotland.  Scotland International Codes GB and GBR (2 and 3-letter ISO3166 codes) and .uk (ICANN national top-level internet domain). Other Sources of Information The following specialized websites are also a good source of Scotland information and news: Bank of England (Scotland central bank), ASI Hot Spots (security-related world events: terrorist threats, political strife, strikes, criminal activity, aviation incidents and health outbreaks), CIA World Factbook (Scotland maps, demographics and economic statistics), the IFES (information covering upcoming elections, referenda, electoral structures and voter participation in Scotland), and Wikipedia (includes Scotland commemorative dates that are not necessarily public holidays).
