Q++Studio Database Server Required Configuration (XV4) 64-bit

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

The Q++Studio Database Server hosts the database that is shared among all your users, whether they are on a local network (LAN) at the Main Site or at a remote site, connecting to the Main Site via the internet (WAN).

The specifications for a Q++Studio Database Server are:

Q++Studio Servers can be installed on a Virtual Machine, such as VMware, or a physical PC-based computer (not on an emulator such as Parallels)..

Pentium Quad-Core processor 2.0 GHz.

Database server: 16 GB

Operating System

The 64-bit version of Windows 7 Professional/Ultimate (SP1) or the 64-bit version of Windows 10 Professional or Windows 2012 Server 64-bit.

You must be logged on as Administrator on any computer on which you want to install and run the Q++Studio Server.

A 15 inch display with a screen resolution of 800 by 600 and 256 colors is sufficient.

Disk Space

You must have a second hard drive at D:\ or E:\, with at least 100GB free, on which to install the Q++Studio Server.

This drive D:\ or E:\ can be either physical or logical, but it must be present.

This drive D:\ or E:\ must be shared completely in read/write mode so that all workstations can map their Q:\ drive to it.

A good quality gigabit network card.

In typical use, a database server receives about 25MB per day sends out about 50MB per workstation.

For LAN connections, these requirements are negligible.

For WAN connections (users connecting to the server via the internet), the server's internet connection should be able to handle upload volume of about 50MB per day per remote workstation, which translates to about 75 KB/s available upload speed and a ping of less than 40 msec from the remote workstations.

See Anti-Virus and Firewall Settings.

Separately Purchased Software

Additional Requirements

1.Should be a stand-alone computer, not used by anyone.

2.The computer on which the Q++Studio server software is installed must be logged-on as Administrator, and running, at all the times.

3.The entire D:\ drive must be shared to be accessed by all the Q++Studio workstations, as Administrators.

4.Q++Studio users may need to physically access that computer once in awhile, to perform updates or reboot it.

5.The Q++Studio Server must have access to the internet (via SMTP and FTP) at night, usually between 2-4am.

6.As the the server runs 24/7, it should be located so as to prevent overheating.
