Generating Holidays Abbreviations

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

The Generate Holidays Abbreviations holidays tool is used to automatically generate abbreviations, based on text found in the name of a holidayor one-time-date. This is done in a batch mode for all holidays or one-time-dates of a holidays set.

Open the Holidays Manager and select a holidays set. Then use the More... buttons located on either of the Holidays Manager's tabs to open the Countries' Abbreviation Generator dialog :

Click on either column header to sort the list according to the values of one or the other column.

The generation options at the bottom of the dialog are :

Search is case sensitive

When this option is true, Q++ will only generate an abbreviation corresponding to an exact match of the text of the Occurrences of the text column. This option should usually be false.

Whole Word only

Use this setting (true by default) to make sure that partial matches, such as Romania do not trigger the abbreviation for another country, such as Oman.

Force uppercase abbreviations

When this option is true, all abbreviations generated will be in uppercase, regardless of the case of the text in the Occurrences of the text column.

Replace existing abbreviations

When this option is true, the generated abbreviations will replace whatever the value of abbreviations was.

Sort alphabetically

When this option is true, once all the individual abbreviations are generated, they will then be sorted alphabetically (and duplicates will be removed).
