To install a Q++ ANSI Server:

1)Make sure that the computer meets the Configuration Requirements described below. In particular, make sure that the entire C:\ drive is shared.

2)If you do not have a copy of the latest Q++ Server Installation Program, start downloading it now (it is about  105 MB in size) and continue with the next steps while the installation programs is being downloaded.

3)If this is a new server installation, then download the Q++ Ephemeris Database Installer (it is about 170 MB) and make sure that it is in the same location as the Q++ Server Installation Program that you downloaded in the previous step.

4)If this is a server re-Installation, then you should now restore the entire C:\Qpp\ folder and sub-folders, and  the  entire C:\QppShare\ folder and sub-folders, from the latest available backup (if these were backed-up to a CD or DVD, make sure that the entire C:\Qpp\ and C:\QppShare\ folders are not read-only).

5)When the downloads initiated in steps 2 and 3 are complete, launch the program Q++ServerSetup.exe, and accept all the default options proposed to you.

6)Remove any CDs or DVDs from the computer, and restart Windows.

Q++ Server Required Configuration

The Q++ Server does not need to be a powerful or recent PC, but it needs a spacious and relatively fast hard disk and good network connectivity. The specifications for a Q++ ANSI Server are:

Processor

Pentium III - 800 MHz.

RAM

512 MB

Operating System

Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3.

Logon

You must be logged on as Administrator on any computer on which you want to install and run the Q++ Server.

Screen

A 15 inch display with a screen resolution of 800 by 600 and 256 colors is sufficient.

Disk Space

Although QuarkXPress is not used on the Q++ Server, the QuarkXPress files generated by users on the Q++ Workstations are saved on the Q++ Server. Therefore you will need the following available free space on the C:\ drive of the server: 30 GB of free disk space (Quark 4 or 5) and 60 GB of free disk space for Quark 6 and 100 GB of free disk space for Quark 7, 8 or 9.

Network

A 100 Base-T network card of high quality, a 100 Base-T network (LAN) and a 256K internet connection.

Separately Purchased Software

none.

Additional Requirements

1.The computer on which the Q++ server software is installed must be logged-on as Administrator, and running, at all the times.

2.The entire C:\ drive must be shared to be accessed by all the Q++ workstations, as Administrators.

3.Q++ users may need to physically access that computer once in awhile, to perform updates or reboot it.

4.The Q++ Server must have access to the internet (via SMTP and FTP) at night, usually between 2-4am.

5.The server and workstation(s) should be physically connected to the same hub.
