Installing an additional XE3 workstation

Scroll Prev Up Next More

The instructions of this page only apply to the extremely rare XE3 setups that include a server and multiple workstations.

For most cases, where the XE3 version of Q++Studio runs on a standalone PC, see migrating a standalone XE3 workstation and server.

To install the XE3 version of Q++Studio on a workstation on which Q++Studio was never installed (but at least one other workstation is already running the XE3 version of Q++Studio).

1)Make sure that the workstation meets the configuration requirements. In particular, create a network drive Q:\ which maps directly to the D:\ drive of the Q++Studio Server.

2)Copy the entire folder C:\Q++StudioXE3\ from one of the workstations on which Q++Studio is installed and functioning properly, to the C:\ drive of the target workstation.

3)Copy the entire folder C:\Qpp\ from one of the workstations on which Q++Studio is installed and functioning properly, to the C:\ drive of the target workstation.

4)Make sure that your Windows user account has full read/write access to all the folders of the table at the top of this page.

5)Install the version of QuarkXPress that you plan to use on this new workstation, making sure to accept the default installation path that the installation program proposes (otherwise, future upgrades of QuarkXPress may be difficult, or even impossible).

a.Apply all necessary updates to bring your version of QuarkXPress to either of the minimum QuarkXPress versions required.

b.Once you have installed QuarkXPress, launch it once and go through the activation process.

6)Open the folder Q:\Q++ServerXE3\ and double-click on the program VC_redist_2015-2017-2019-2022.x64.exe, to install the Visual C++ run-time libraries needed for QuarkXPress version 2016-2024.

a.If you plan to use QuarkXPress version 2015, then also double-click on the program VC_redist_2010.x64.exe, to install the Visual C++ run-time libraries needed for QuarkXPress version 2015.

b.If you plan to use QuarkXPress versions 8-10, then also double-click on the program VC_redist_2010.x86.exe, to install the Visual C++ run-time libraries needed for QuarkXPress versions 8-10.

7)Open the folder Q:\Q++ServerXE3\ and double-click on the program Q++UsersXE3.exe. Wait for 20 seconds and then email the file Q++UsersXE3.ini, located in the same folder, to technical support.

8)Wait for an email from technical support, in response to the ini file you sent.

9)Once you have received an email from technical support, telling you that the license files have been updated, double-click on the program file

C:\Q++StudioXE3\Utilities\Q++StudioUpdaterXE3.exe

on this new PC. This will automatically download the updated license files and complete the installation.

10)Install all the fonts located in the folder Q:\Q++ServerXE3\Setup\Fonts\.

11)Launch Q++Studio normally.

12)Follow the steps described here, to make sure that your version of Q++Studio is setup to work with the versions of QuarkXPress installed on your computer.

If, at any stage, you encounter any difficulties, contact technical support.
