Governing Law: The list and dates of the official public holidays in Montenegro are regulated by the Bill on National and Other Holidays, approved by Cabinet on April 19, 2007, and voted by parliament in May 2007. This law enshrines the 2004 Law on the National Holiday which was passed before Montenegro's independence. • Independence Day: Montenegro held an independence referendum in the spring of 2006 under rules set by the EU. The vote for severing ties with Serbia exceeded the 55% threshold, allowing Montenegro to formally declare its independence on 3 June 2006.
