Governing Law: Official public holidays in Tunisia, and their dates, are regulated by the Tunisian Labour Code's (Code du travail tunisien, Loi no 66-27 du 30 avril 1966) articles 445, subsequently modified many times, for example by law 88-55 (1988) and 91-15 (1991) and Article 1 of law 96-62 (loi n° 96-62 du 15 juillet 1996) which specified that henceforth public holidays would be set forth by official decrees (ie. not by passing a law) or by each branch's collective bargaining agreement. • Accord Cadre: By default, if no specific collective agreement exists then the default (cadre) agreement applies which lists the following as paid non-working days in Article 445 of the Labour Code: March 20, May 1st, July 25, November 7, Rabi al-Awal 12, Shawwal 1-2, Zul-Hija 10-11. The unpaid non-working days are: March 21, April 9, and August 13. Religious Holidays : Public holidays in Tunisia that are based on certain religious calendars may be subject to local variations due to differing interpretations between different religious authorities, or to seemingly arbitrary changes in the date a holiday is celebrated because it conflicts with another holiday that is based on another calendar, or because the day of the holiday is deemed inauspicious (bad luck). Muslim Holidays : Muslim bank holidays, legal holidays and public holidays for Tunisia were evaluated using the Umm al-Qura Calendar of Saudi Arabia which is used in Saudi Arabia and in most of the Persian Gulf States. Holidays may occur a day later in countries outside the Gulf region. The sunrises, sunsets, moon phases, moonrises and moonsets used in these calculations are based on the location of Mecca (latitude 21.42°N, longitude, 39.82°E, GMT+3 hours, no summer time rules).
