It was restored in 1989 as a one-day public holiday, and was extended to a 3-day public holiday in 2003. • In addition, because the date of Lunar New Year often falls near Kim Jong Il's birthday, a 2-day public holiday on February 16-17, the 2 public holidays are often linked by bridge holidays. For example, in 2007, the Lunar New Year was celebrated as part of a 5-day public holiday that went from February 16th to the 20th.

Calendarios Coreanos: Los dos calendarios coreanos tradicionales (el solar y el lunar) se basan en una estructura similar al calendario chino. La única diferencia radica en que para establecer la fecha en que se produce un evento de su calendario lunar o solar, los calendarios coreanos no toman Pekín como punto de referencia, sino Seúl. Por este motivo, a veces existen días feriados en alguno de los calendarios coreanos que se celebran un día antes de la fecha china correspondiente (este fenómeno se produce en aproximadamente el 4% de los casos).
