The governement of Hong Kong has announced that, next year, the day after the Ching Ming (Tomb Sweeping Day) public holiday, Tuesday, April 6, 1999, would be an additional public holiday.
The decision was made due to the fact that, in 1999, both the Ching Ming and Easter Monday public holidays fall on the same date. This will occur again in 2010.
There was also confirmation that July 1st would be an annual public holiday in Hong Kong. Recall that last year, a 5-day public holiday from Saturday, June 28, until Wednesday, July 2, 1997, inclusively, was declared to celebrate the handover of Hong Kong to the People's Republic of China (20-Jun-1997).
