Ghana's Minister of the Interior, Nii Okaija Adamafio, has announced that the government of Ghana had declared Friday, December 31st, 1999, as a one-off public holiday "to enable the banks and financial institutions to test their preparedness for the year 2000 computer problem".

The Minister did, however, point out that Monday December 27, and Tuesday, December 28, 1999, as well as Monday, January 3, 2000, are normal working days.

This despite the fact that the upcoming December 25, 26 and January 1, public holidays fall on weekends, and the mistaken impression that the following working days would be a public holidays.
