South Africa Declares December 5 Public Holiday

South Africa's Chamber of Business has confirmed that the government of South Africa had decided to declare Tuesday, December 5, 2000, an official public holiday throughout South Africa.

This was done on the occasion of the upcoming municipal elections.

Note that the date of the recent national elections was also declared a nationwide public holiday by South Africa's cabinet (28-Apr-1999).
