The Central Personnel Administration of the the Republic of China (Taiwan) has announced that it would enforce a five-day work week starting in 2002, increasing yearly holidays for public civic servants to 113-114 days from the present 102 days.
Currently, Taiwan enforces a five-day work week only in the second and fourth weeks of each month.
The public holidays that the government plans to cancel to compensate for the move to a 2-day weekend are: 228 (February 28), Sun Yat-sen's birthday (November 12) and Constitution Day (December 25).
Note that February 28 was only made a public holiday in 1997, effective since 1998 (24-Feb-1997).
