Philippines President, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, has declared that the upcoming Muslim festival of Eid al Fitr (End of Ramadan) would be a special non-working public holiday.

This is the first time in Philippine history that a Muslim festival has been declared as an official public holiday.

The actual date will be set and announced by Muslim leaders, but it is expected to be December 16 or 17, 2001.
