Philippines Declares December 24 Public Holiday

Philippines President, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, has issued Proclamation No. 129, dated of last December 5th, which makes December 24, 2001, a one-off public holiday for both the private and public sectors.

The same Proclamation also declares December 26, 27, 28 as public sector holidays for all government employees, something that was not expected from earlier announcements (28-Nov-2001).

Employers of the private sector (except those providing banking, financial, health, security and other vital services to the public) have the option of not requiring their employees to report for work on December 26, 27 and 28.
