Nepal's Home Ministry has announced that the government has declared 2 public holidays to coincide with the dates when King Gyanendra and Queen Komal will be leaving for, and returning from, an upcoming state visit in New Delhi.

Thus, Sunday, June 23, 2002, and Friday, June 28, 2002, will be one-off public holidays throughout Nepal.

Note that, as Nepal's only weekly day of rest is Saturday (13-Jan-2001), the aforementioned announcement means that these 2 public holidays will each contribute to an extended weekend.

Earlier this week (19-Jun-2002), the the Home Ministry of the government of Nepal had declared Thursday, June 20, 2002, as a national public holiday as a mark of respect for late King Birendra and Queen Aishwarya, killed by their son, Crown Prince Dipendra, in June 2001.
