Nigeria Declares May 6 Public Holiday

The government of Kano State in northern Nigeria has declared Monday, May 6, 2002, as work-free (ie. public holidays) in honour of the at least 160 people who died from Saturday's EAS plane crash.

For his part, Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, cut short his four-nation tour of Southern Africa and has declared two days of national mourning.
