Jersey Considers Amending Public Holidays Law

(Posted on Monday, May 31, 2004)

The Legislation Committee of Jersey's Assembly is considering a draft bill, "Draft Public Holidays And Bank Holidays (Jersey) Act 200-", which would mandate a day in lieu public holiday, following any fixed-date public holiday that occurs on a Saturday.

There is currently no automatic provision to grant additional days in such circumstances, though it has become an established practice.

The proposed bill comes on the recommendation of the Legislation Committee, following Royal Proclamation from the United Kingdom, to grant additional days on 28th December and 3rd January respectively.
