(Posted on Thursday, December 30, 2004)

Russian President, Vladimir Putin, has signed into law amendments to Article 112 of Russia's Labour Code, extending the New Year public holidays from 2 to 5 working days, as well as changing some other public holidays.

The State Duma, the lower house of parliament, had already passed the bill on December 24 (24-Dec-2004) and the Federation Council, the upper house of parliament, approved it on Monday, December 27, 2004.

The new public holidays bill should, in principle, go into effect immediately (ie. in January 2005).
