Lebanon has gazetted a law that revises the list of official public holidays in Lebanon, with the aim to reduce the number of public holidays celebrated in Lebanon.
One of the salient points of the new law is that it stipulates that public administrations, institutions and municipalities will close for one day only on the occasion of most public holidays, except for the 2 Eids (End of Ramadan, and Feast of Sacrifice).
The law also stipulates a day in lieu when Orthodox and Catholic Good Friday fall on the same date (about 25% of the time), and when Labour Day falls on a Sunday.
Finally, the May 25, Resistance and Liberation Day public holiday, instituted in 2000 (25-May-2000), will henceforth always be observed on a Sunday (a non-working day in Lebanon).
