Malaysia's Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, has announced that the Government had decided against declaring Wednesday, November 2, 2005, as a one-off bridge public holiday.
The Deputy Prime Minister added that most civil servants celebrating Deepavali and Hari Raya Aidilfitri would be taking their annual leave during that period.
Last week (14-Oct-2005), a group of Malaysian members of Parliament had urged the government to declare Wednesday, November 2, 2005, as a one-off bridge public holiday, considering that, in 2005, November 1st will correspond to this year's Deepavali public holiday, while November 3rd is expected to be the first day of the Hari Raya Aidilfitri (End of Ramadan) public holiday.
