South Africa Will Not Have December 27 Public Holiday

(Posted on Friday, October 14, 2005)

Source: Statement from Home Affairs (Pretoria)

Late yesterday, a spokesperson for South Africa's Home Affairs announced that December 27, 2005, would not be a public holiday in South Africa.

This was done to quash speculation that Tuesday, December 27 would be a day in lieu public holiday to compensate the fact that Christmas Day 2005 will be a Sunday, and that the next Monday, December 26, is already an official public holiday.
