Following a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, Honduras' President, Manuel Zelaya, announced that the public sector would be on holidays for the first 3 days of Easter week.
This announcement follows, and partially contradicts, an earlier announcement by the Tourism Minister of Honduras, Ricardo Martínez (01-Apr-2006).
This means that, combined with the annual public holidays on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, Honduras government workers will be on holidays for 9 consecutive days, from April 8 to 16.
Contrary to what was done in previous years (24-Feb-2005 and 30-Sep-2005), the compensation for these 3 extra public sector holidays will not come from cancelling public holidays in October, but by decreeing 3 working Saturdays; April 22, 29 and May 6, 2006.
