The government of Kazakhstan has declared Wednesday, January 11, 2006, as a one-off public holiday to allow for a longer celebration of the Kurban Ait (Eid al-Adha) and Orthodox Christmas public holidays which, this year occur around the same time.
In 2006, the Kurban Ait public holiday will occur on Tuesday, January 10, while there will be a day in lieu public holiday on Monday, January 9, to compensate the fact that the January 7 Orthodox Christmas public holiday falls on a weekend.
