The Federal Government has declared Monday, October 2, 2006, a public holiday to mark this year’s independence anniversary.
As per articles 5a to 5d of the current laws regulating public holidays in Nigeria, the Public Holidays Act of 1979 (chapter 378), and the Public Holidays Act of 2004 (Cap.P40, Vol.14 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004), no day in lieu is to be given to compensate any public holiday that falls on a Saturday or Sunday.
