Peru's President has announced Supreme Decree (Decreto Supremo) 055-2006-PCM of August 22, 2006, which establishes that public sector workers are entitled to the day adjacent to a public holiday, as a day off, while making up the time in the following week.
Private sector workers, subject to a case-by-case negociation inside each company, are encouraged to do the same.
This system of public sector holidays was put in place, formally, for the first time, earlier this year for the 2006 calendar year (05-Apr-2006).
