Following the death of Turkmenistan's autocratic president, Saparmurat Niyazov, who died of heart failure last Thursday, and whose funeral is scheduled for next Sunday, all restaurants, cafes and liquor shops were closed throughout the country, and weddings were ordered to be postponed until December 30, the end of the national mourning period.
