Today is Nevada Day, a state holiday that in Nevada swapped out with Columbus Day, to recognize the admission of Nevada into the Union.
Until 2003 it was always celebrated on the 31st of October, but in 2003 the state legislature decided to observe Nevada Day on the last Friday in October, hoping to generate more interest with a three day weekend.
