Earlier this week, Bahamas' Minister of State for Culture, Charles Maynard, announced that the change of name of the Discovery Day public holiday to National Heroes Day wont come into effect by October 12 (the date of this year's Discovery Day as well as the date of the proposed National Heroes' Day).
Minister Maynard did stress, though, that the bills were passed in parliament earlier this year (30-Mar-2007), as well as legislation to establish a system of local honours. All that is needed is for the government to bring the Bill into force (ie. to gazette it).
