The PRD's legislative group in the Chamber of Deputies, is proposing to cancel the implementation of long weekends (fines de semana largos), begun in 2006.
Reasons given are that the moving of these holidays to a Monday sacrifices traditional celebrations in the search for economic efficiency. For the moment this is only at the proposal stage, and we will continue to monitor the situation.
Last year (17-Jan-2006) Mexico's President, Vincente Fox Quesada, had issued a decree modifying article 74 of Mexico's Labour Code (artículo 74 de la Ley Federal del Trabajo)., whereby the holidays celebrated on Feb-5, Mar-21, Sep-16 and Nov-20, would move to the next Monday, if they did not already occur on a Monday.
