Newly appointed Prime Minister, Sir John Compton, announced that Wednesday January 3 will be observed as an additional public holiday in Saint Lucia.
It is customary in Saint Lucia for a public holiday to be declared immediately following a general election (03-Dec-2001 and 23-May-1997), but on this last occasion (December 11, 2006) this was not done, hence the January 3 additional public holiday.
