The one-off public holiday scheduled for July 30th, 2008, will no longer be observed; as the People’s Progressive Movement government has cancelled the late-July date for Cayman’s referendum on constitutional modernisation.
July 30, 2008, has earlier been announced as a public holiday, should the referendum be held on that day (23-Jun-2008 and 18-Jun-2008).
The rescheduled referendum will be a straight up or down poll - simultaneous with next year’s general election, scheduled for May 2009. We expect that date to be declared a public holiday in the Cayman Islands.
