Prime Minister Nader Dahabi announced yesterday that despite last February's Royal decree, setting the Hijra New Year public holiday for Wednesday, January 9, this year's Islamic New Year would in fact be celebrated on Thursday, January 10, 2008.
The original date of January 9, 2008, had been announced early last year (16-Feb-2007), when the Jordanian government released the list of official public holidays dates for the years 2007-2011, vowing to thus make public holidays dates predictable for the business community.
This first exception to the official 2007-2011 list of public holidays does not bode well for the future reliability of the aforementioned list.
