The President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, has signed the amendment to the Law on Holidays of the Republic of Kazakhstan which declares The Day of the Capital, on July 6, as a new annual non-working public holiday, effective as of this year.
The aforementioned bill was approved, last week (18-Jun-2008), by the Majilis (Kazakhstan's Lower House of Parliament) and earlier this week by Kazakhstan's Senate (23-Jun-2008).
As this new holiday falls on a Sunday this year, and as per the 2001 amendment to the law on public holidays of Kazakhstan (14-Dec-2001), a day in lieu additional non-working public holiday will automatically be given on Monday, July 7, 2008.
