Liberia Keeps Tubman Public Holiday On Saturday

(Posted on Friday, November 28, 2008)

Source: The Liberia Times (Monrovia)

Liberia's President, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, has issued a proclamation declaring Saturday, November 29, 2008, a public holiday for the 113th birth anniversary of Liberia’s 18th President, William Vacanarat Shadrach Tubman.

The proclamation, in itself, is not a surprise, as an act of the third session of the forty-second legislature, declares each birth anniversary of Liberia's 18th President as a national holiday.

What is, however, interesting is that despite the 29th of November falling on a Saturday, no day in lieu was given, as was the case recently for the Flag Day public holiday (23-Aug-2008).
