Nepal's Cabinet announced that it was adding 18 new public holidays. Among those mentioned are: Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Adha, Christmas, the Birthday of Guru Nanak, Ubhauli Udhyauli, Goura, both Lhosars (Tamu and Sonam), Siruwa and Maghi.
In compensation, the Government announced that 3 days would be cut from the 9-day Dashain festival public holiday, a change that has been discussed regularly, since 2001 (13-Jan-2001).
