A member of the Russian State Duma Committee on Labor and Social Policy, Gregory Anikeev, has proposed amending the 2004 law on public holidays in Russia to move 2 days of public holidays from January to the month of May.
As per the 2004 law on public holidays in Russia (30-Dec-2004), the first five non-holiday weekdays of January are public holidays. The proposed change would amend this to limit the early January public holidays to the first 3 weekdays, and move the 2 other public holidays to May 2 and 3 to afford Russians with a 3-day, May 1-3, public holiday in May.
