South African 2010 Public Holidays Announced

(Posted on Wednesday, November 12, 2008)

In its Gazette 31590, Government Notice 1203, of November 10, 2008, the Department of Education of South Africa has announced the dates of the special one-off bridge holidays for schools, for 2010.

These one-off school holidays are usually adjoined to a Tuesday or Thursday public holiday, and are not to be confused with school terms and vacations. Thought these are not full-fledged public holidays, many employees do take the day off to benefit from a 4-day weekend with the entire family.

The calendar, which has been submitted for comments, also contains a 5-week break from June 9, 2010, to coincide with the 2010 FIFA World Cup being held in South Africa (19-Apr-2008).
