US President, George W. Bush, released an Executive Order, dated December 12, indicating that "All executive branch departments and agencies of the Federal Government shall be closed and their employees excused from duty on Friday, December 26, 2008, the day after Christmas Day".
As of last night, many US embassies (Japan, Kazakhstan, ...) had already updated their website to include this one-off public holiday.
This is the second year in a row that federal civil servants gets a 4-day Christmas break; last year, Christmas Eve fell on a Monday and President Bush declared it a federal public sector holiday.
