Argentina's Senate has voted in final reading a bill that would make October 30, an annual national holiday called "Día Nacional de la Democracia", commemorating the date of the 1983 elections that marked Argentina's return to democracy.
The bill now needs to be approved by the lower house (Cámara de Diputados), which seems quite likely, particularly as this would not be a public holiday, as per President Kirchner request.
