Bangladesh Revises 2009 Muslim Public Holidays Dates

(Posted on Monday, January 19, 2009)

The government of Bangladesh has issued a decree changing the dates and duration of the Eid ul-Fiter (End of Ramadan) and the Eid -ul-Azha (Feast of Sacrifice) public holidays in 2009.

The date of Eid ul-Fiter (End of Ramadan) public holiday has been brought forward by one day, while the Eid -ul-Azha (Feast of Sacrifice) public holiday has been reduced from 3 to 2 day.

This occurs barely a week after the government of Bangladesh had issued its list of 2009 public holidays (12-Jan-2009).

Note that, despite the fact that the official duration of the Eid -ul-Azha (Feast of Sacrifice) public holiday in Bangladesh is officially 3 days, this is the second year in a row that the public holiday is reduced from 3 to 2 days (07-Dec-2008).
